"Alex
and I just returned from a vacation to Tepoztlán, Mexico, and I feel compelled
to tell you about this hotel, as I think you would REALLY like vacationing there....
...The
hotel rooms are beautiful and comfortable, nearly all affording wonderful views
of those enchanting mountains in Tepoztlán.
We stayed in the Oaxaca
Suite at the hotel, which is the room I would recommend for you. A full gourmet
cooked to order breakfast is included in your hotel room fee, When I say gourmet,
I mean international spa cuisine standard fare. The hotel chef, is a genius. His
food is seasoned and cooked to perfection, and it is light, highly flavorful and
completely fresh, whether it is adapted traditional Mexican, European or fusion..."

A
message from the owners: Marci and I discovered the charming old Indian
village of Tepoztlán in the heart of Mexico, quite by accident. Bruce came
down to Cuernavaca- the City of Eternal Spring for an outdoor program with David
Wiley. David brought Bruce to Tepoztlán for lunch one day and it was love
at first sight. Tepoztlán is a small Pueblo of 35,000 people nestled next
to a large mountain chain an hour and a half drive from Mexico City. It has an
ancient history and enjoys every climate available in Mexico. That was five years
ago and now we are no longer tourists but residents. We are the proud owners of
a boutique hotel we call Villa del Tepoz Fuego. It didn't take us long to decide
that this was where we wanted to settle. But, how to make a living?
Marci
wanted to open a bed and breakfast but when we realized that many of the restaurants
in town were closed during the week, we decided to offer a full-service restaurant,
along with an intimate hotel. Because we had spent part of our careers as health-care
professionals (Marci as a holistic nurse, and Bruce as a Chinese medicine practitioner),
we decided to devote part of our property into a jewel-like spa. This would attract
international travelers, as well as Mexican visitors
In order to create
our dream, we undertook a total renovation of the house and grounds. This took
13 months of six day a week construction. Today Tepoz Fuego is comprised of
3 rooms and 4 suites, an open-air restaurant and bar, swimming pool and beautiful
gardens surrounded by spectacular views of the surrounding beauty of the Tepozteco
Mountains. This peaceful oasis features its own stream and two small waterfalls.
Marci
and I traveled throughout Mexico in search of Mexican art and antiques with which
to furnish the rooms-each with a different theme. For example, The Oaxaca Suite,
designed honeymoon couples, is decorated with Oaxaca pottery, rug, and beautiful
paintings.. It boasts a fireplace, talavera tiled bathroom, fireplace, jacuzzi
tub for two, and two patios on the second floor to sit and contemplate the vista
views. Some of are other rooms like the Garden Suite features a Jacuzzi and separate
shower, beautiful original Mexican paintings, and a first floor outdoor private
patio. All of our main rooms have private bathrooms and all are appointed with
the most luxurious products-soaps, creams, shampoos. Of course, there is a hair
dryer in every room. There is a room or suite for every guest and every pocketbook.
Our spa and resting areas feature original frescos and murals with pastoral scenes.
We can boast some of the finest massage therapists in the country.
All of
our staff here come from the Tepoztlán area and feel like members of the
family. We have slowly assembled and educated to them to our unique concept and
offering for our special guests. None of them had ever eaten in an elegant restaurant
like ours or in a hotel like hours so they needed to learn about a new set of
standards and international hygiene.
Bruce, loves to play the piano so we
on request provide beautiful dinner music to our many savory and delicious offerings.
We wanted to have an excellent offering of delicious culinary experiences for
our guests and with now our restaurant has been rated by our guests as the number
one restaurant in Tepoztlán on the independent international web site Trip
Advisor. We are fortunate to have one of the best chefs in Mexico with Chef Noe
Rrodriquez Ocamo, who manages the kitchen. His assistant, Chef Alvaro Miranda
Portugal, is equally skilled. Marci and I do most of the shopping ourselves so
that guests have only organic fresh fruits and vegetables. Guests can feast n
the freshest fish and the best cuts of meat. Naturally, all breads and desserts
are made on the premises. Some of our favorite dishes are mussels in wine sauce,
red snapper stuffed with fresh gulf shrimps, chile rellenos, and the French cut
lamb chops. We are one of the few restaurants with real maple syrup, homemade
cinnamon rolls and the best homemade pancakes in Mexico. Our waiter Rodrigo Villalpando
Aceves has had many years of domestic and international experience as a top server
in his profession. He also doubles as our driver and picks up guests from Cuernavaca
or Mexico City in our spacious hotel van.
I
must boast that our little hotel is famous for the best margaritas and the largest
wine menu in the area. We have a nice assortment of the best domestic wines and
wines from eight countries from around the world. We carry nine domestic brands
of beer and lots of choices from our bar. We also carry imported sparkling wine
and champagne.
Marci and I have never lost our fascination with Tepoz or
surrounding villages and haciendas. So we love organizing personal tours for our
guests. There's the local volcanoes, Popocatépetl Volcano, and Iztaccíhuatl
Volcano .
We are one of the few facilities in Mexico with a chlorine- free
authentic hot Jacuzzi and pool. We use ultra violet lights to kill bacteria in
our general water supply and in the swimming or bathing areas, We wash our laundry
with out soaps containing perfumes or dyes.
We
like to do the little things for our guest's pleasure. We turn their beds down
at night and place candies for their enjoyment. We take special requests like
putting hearts of rose petals on their beds saying things like "I Love You",
special flowers in their room, champagne or wines in their room while waiting
for their arrival. We honor special requests for dining and provide candle lights
at our tables, and special romantic meals upon request. We have many beautiful
places to have a special rendezvous in or outside of our gourmet restaurant.
Our
most popular offering is our cooking classes taught by Marci and Noe. We also
have Spanish classes on the premises with wonderful professional teachers.
What
Marci and Bruce always like say is our house is your house. "Nuestra casa
es tu casa."
